Born in Glasgow in 1959 Peter Graham ROI, RSW is one of Britain’s most vivid and distinctive Modern Colourists.
From 1976 - 1980 Peter Graham studied at Glasgow School of Art under a number of high profile and influential tutors including Barbara Rae CBE, RA and David Donaldson, Painter and Limner to Her Majesty The Queen. He went on to study mosaic and mural design under George Garson.
His work is often related to the Modern Scottish School but Graham has a flamboyant style which is unique- detailed brushwork combined with looser fluid strokes creating vibrant contrasts of pure colour, line and tone.
A painter of brilliant light, he has travelled the world painting 'en plein air’, capturing the essence of his subject with brushstrokes full of rich colour - harbours and cafes of the South of France, the coast of Scotland and California, and amidst the grandeur of elegant interiors in London and New York.
His influences include the Scottish Colourists and the French Impressionists.
Peter Graham has maintained a life long preoccupation with light and intense colour, gaining in the process, a worldwide reputation for his instantly recognisable style.
Peter Graham has held an impressive presence on the British art scene for over 30 years, exhibiting regularly with 5 of the Royal Societies and elected member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, ROI, and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, RSW. Peter also served for a period as Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, London.
He is a multi-award winner for his works in both oil and watercolour and author of 'An Introduction to Painting Still Life’.
